Day 1 – Tenerife Trip May 2026

Today marked the start of our study visit as we travelled from London to the Canary Islands. Pupils from Southwold and Hoxton Garden Primary Schools arrived at Gatwick Airport full of excitement and anticipation for the adventure ahead. Despite the busy check-in and a small delay to our flight, everyone remained in great spirits as we made our way through the airport and onto the plane. During the journey, pupils kept themselves entertained with card games, drawing, sharing snacks and chatting about everything they are most excited to experience during the week. Staff were incredibly impressed by how responsible, patient and well-behaved pupils were throughout what was a very long travel day. It was also lovely to see new friendships already beginning to…

It was also lovely to see new friendships already beginning to form between pupils from both schools.

As we began our descent onto the island, pupils were treated to a spectacular first glimpse of El Teide volcano rising above the clouds. There were many “wows” from the windows as everyone tried to catch a better view of the famous landmark towering over the island.

The coach journey to our hotel in Puerto de la Cruz gave pupils their first chance to notice the many differences between Tenerife and London — from the dramatic volcanic landscape to the colourful and distinctive plants and trees lining the roadsides.

After a long day of travelling, we arrived safely at the hotel just in time for a light dinner before heading off to bed. Everyone agreed that a good night’s rest was needed so we are ready for the exciting adventures and learning experiences that tomorrow will bring.

We look forward to sharing more updates with you as the week unfolds! ¡Hasta pronto!
