Year 4 have been learning about the different processes involved in turning flax into usable fibre. First, they sorted and broke the flax, before scutching and heckling to remove the husks of the fibre. They then learnt how to spin the flax into linen yarn using a drop spindle, just as the Ancient Egyptians did! The children loved learning about the different processes and improving their skills throughout the session.
