Day 3 – Tenerife Trip May 2026

Today, our pupils explored the agricultural side of island life with a visit to Las Margaritas banana plantation. After a filling buffe breakfast to get us energised for the day, we travelled south, catching stunning views of El Teide volcano on the way—prompting plenty of excited questions (and lots of photos!). At the plantation, our enthusiastic guide, Naba, gave an engaging tour, explaining how bananas are grown, harvested, and turned into everyday products—¡super interesante! Did you know that banana “trees” aren’t really trees? They are actually giant herbs! And did you know that each banana plant only produces fruit once? After one harvest, the plant dies – but a new shoot grows from the same root to take its place…

Did you know that banana “trees” aren’t really trees? They are actually giant herbs! And did you know that each banana plant only produces fruit once? After one harvest, the plant dies – but a new shoot grows from the same root to take its place and start again. Pupils wrapped up the visit with a tasty sampling of banana-inspired treats and time to browse for souvenirs and gifts.

After returning to Puerto de la Cruz, we enjoyed another afternoon treat of pool fun and a picnic together before settling into our evening routine of showers and diary time, reflecting on the day and the many experiences we have shared so far.

Dinner was another culinary feast, with pupils continuing to try a range of delicious Spanish dishes from the hotel restaurant before winding down for a well-earned rest after another exciting day on the island. Tomorrow, we head to Maximiliano Gil School to meet our Spanish peers and experience school life in Tenerife. Pupils are very excited to use their Spanish conversation skills in practice and make new friends!

The group have continued to be excellent ambassadors for their schools, truly making the most of every moment of the trip so far. It has been wonderful to see pupils embracing each new experience with such joy, curiosity and enthusiasm, while supporting one another and savouring every opportunity the island has to offer.
